Course Description (Major goals and teaching strategies):

Students will develop advanced skills organizing and presenting cross curriculum projects.

Students will be educated on various ways to become vigilant in Internet safety practices.

Students will learn to design websites and graphics and use cross platform formats to design a creative electronic portfolio which will display highlights of the academic year.

Students will learn about digital imaging, designing portfolios and visual graphics. Internet research is a part of this class.

Class will focus on individual as well as project learning across the curriculum

Students will develop project based learning skills.

 

Students will become better at:

ü Presentations

ü PowerPoint

ü Internet Research

ü Digital Imaging

Ø      Safe Internet Surfing

Ø      Organizational skills

Ø      Defining their best practices and highlighting their success in an effort to build on it.

 

The teaching strategies to be used include:

Direct Instruction

One-on-one Direct Instruction

This class will be mainly paperless (email, blogs will be used)

Project based learning

Major Topics and Concepts: by the close of the year, students will understand the following topics and concepts:

ü Digital portfolio assessment

ü Use and understanding of peripherals: scanner, digital camera, printer, zip drive and file share

ü -Graphic design-jpeg, gif, pdf, tiff formats

ü -Programming hardware/software

ü -Multimedia applications

ü -Electronic Research / Email

ü Web authoring

Ø      Project learning and workshop

Major Skills: by the close of the year, students will be able to:

Have a comprehensive understanding of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)

Give effective presentations displaying their electronic portfolio

Design Web Pages

Manipulate the Internet more safely

Key Questions: How can I use technology to enhance my quality of life

 

Assessment Strategies and Grading Policy

Describe how students will be assessed and how grades will be determined*:

Daily Work- 40%

LABS-50%

HOMEWORK-10%

Student’s end of term grade will be determined as follows:

Calculation of the points listed above.

 

Student’s final grade for the course will be determined as follows:

 

****All students will maintain an assessment portfolio that contains all completed subject tasks and projects

 

 Expectations and Extra Help Schedule

Students are expected to come to class prepared and ready to learn.

It is the student’s responsibility to see teacher regarding make up work

This must be done within three (3) days of returning to school.

 

In addition:

Students are expected to practice punctuality.

Students should have good attendance.

Students are expected to participate in whole-class and small group activities.
