Grade 9

Where is YOUR money going?

You are going to design a budget for 6 months.

You will need to find a job, find a place to live (apartment) and create a budget.

Go to www.wcvb.com and find a job and an apartment in the Boston or greater Boston area.

You will need to budget in how you will travel around- T or a car. If you choose to travel by using the T- you need to live within walking distance to a stop and also budget in the price of a monthly T pass.

If you choose to travel by way of a car- you need to also find a car and budget in a monthly payment for it as well as car insurance. (1200 a year for an average car)

Also- if you choose to travel by way of a car then factor in gas.

You will need to eat each month- to calculate a monthly price for how much you can spend on food go to http://www.peapod.com/  and check out what you want and see how much it will cost. Choose enough food for only one week then multiply that by 4.

Choose a phone plan and budget in your phone bill.

You will need to socialize- budget in how much money you will need for that per month.

This will be at least 100 per month.

Create a spreadsheet that will take you through a 6 month budget.

Make sure there is a place that highlights where your total expenses. (Use the auto sum button)

Have a row that has your monthly income.

Also- have a “Savings” row. This should show how much you could actually save after you pay your bills.  This formula should be your total from each column – your weekly salary.
